Director of Finance

The Director of Finance will be primarily responsible for planning, implementing, managing and running all the finance activities of Activate:Chi, including business planning, budgeting, forecasting and negotiations. Your responsibilities will also extend to obtaining and maintaining donor relations and partnership compliance.

How we work:

We do most of our work independently on our own time and check in weekly to discuss progress, collaborate, and ask questions in a 30-60 minute meeting. Because we are all volunteers with other jobs and responsibilities, we trust everyone to be accountable to their tasks and functions and to each other.

How the Director of Finance will help us accomplish our goals:

  • Establish a sustainable revenue source of members from our community by creating and maintaining donor relationships
  • Ensure Activate:Chi stays compliant and in good standing by overseeing audit and tax functions
  • Help us plan realistic initiatives and actions by preparing and maintaining Activate:Chi’s budgets

Expected weekly commitment:

5-10 hours

Grant Writer

The Grant Writer will research, draft, and submit proposals to help Activate:Chi receive grant funding.

  • Enable the organization to do more impactful work by securing grant funding from appropriate funding opportunities
  • Keep Activate in good standing with our grantors by complying with all follow-up stipulations in grant awards.

Policy Research Lead

The Policy Research Lead will work to influence political and social events, as well as raise public awareness on different issues. This involves conducting research, analyzing current policies, evaluating the effects of proposed legislation, and reporting on findings.

How the Policy Research Lead will help us accomplish our goals:

  • Ensure Activate is making informed advocacy by conducting policy research pertinent to our initiatives and sharing your findings with the group
  • Make Activate:Chi a reputable source of local activist information by collaborating with the Social Media Manager to share research findings on our social media platforms

Expected weekly commitment:

2-3 hours

Publicist

The Publicist will generate, maintain, and manage publicity for Activate:Chi. You will be primarily responsible for communicating our initiatives to the audiences we hope to reach, impact, and influence.

How the Publicist will help us accomplish our goals:

  • Make sure the Chicago community hears about the work we are doing by writing and pitching press releases and public statements to local media
  • Help Activate establish a professional public persona by leading members through media training and preparing them for interviews and events
  • Promote long-term thinking by creating and coordinating publicity plans with Dom, our Director of Public Relations

3-5 hours

Social Media Manager

The Social Media Manager is primarily responsible for planning, implementing, managing and monitoring Activate:Chi’s social media strategy in order to increase the public’s awareness of us and to help us use our platform more effectively.

We do most of our work independently on our own time and check in weekly to discuss progress, collaborate, and ask questions in a 30-60 minute meeting. Because we are all volunteers with other jobs and responsibilities, we trust everyone to be accountable to their tasks and functions and to each other.

How the Social Media Manager will help us accomplish our goals:

  • Use the Activate social platforms to make Activate:Chi a known and reputable source of local activist information online
  • Ensure that all of Activate:Chi’s activities are shared online by taking the lead on content creation and posting on our social channels.
  • Communicate your needs and visions with the Stephen, our Graphic Designer, so he can produce the branded assets needed for your work
  • Maintain positive relationships with our community by replying and engaging with followers on our social platforms
